چکیده

Density functional theory was used to study the nonmagnetic (NM) and ferromagnetic (FM) phases of face-centered cubic cerium. Functionals of four levels of approximation for the exchange-correlation energy were used: LDA, PBE, LDA/PBE + U , and YS-PBEh. The latter two contain an adjustable parameter, the onsite Coulomb repulsion parameter U for LDA/PBE +U , and the fraction αx of Hartree-Fock exchange for YS-PBEh, which were varied in order to study their influence on the results. By supposing that, as a first approximation, the NM and FM solutions can be identified to the observed α and γ phases, respectively, it is concluded that while a small value of U or αx leads to the correct trend for the stability ordering of the two phases, larger values are necessary for a more appropriate (but still not satisfying) description of the electronic structure.

Investigation of effect of magnetic ordering on structural and electronic properties of double perovskites Sr2BWO6 (B = Co, Ni, Cu) using ab initio method

Structural and electronic properties of double perovskites Sr2BWO6 (B = Co, Ni, Cu)  were studied  for each of three magnetic configurations nonmagnetic, ferromagnetic, and antiferromagnetic by using density functional theory in generalized gradient approximations (GGA) and strong correlation correction (GGA + U). Due to magnetic transition from antiferromagnetic to nonmagnetic phase, an electr...

Nonequilibrium spin distribution in a single-electron transistor

Single-electron transistor with ferromagnetic outer electrodes and a nonmagnetic island is studied theoretically. Nonequilibrium electron-spin distribution in the island is caused by tunneling current. The dependences of the magnetoresistance ratio d on the bias and gate voltages show the dips which are directly related to the induced separation of Fermi levels for electrons with different spin...

Doping-Induced Ferromagnetism and Possible Triplet Pairing in d Mott Insulators

We study the effects of electron doping in Mott insulators containing d ions such as Ru, Os, Rh, and Ir with J = 0 singlet ground state. Depending on the strength of the spin-orbit coupling, the undoped systems are either nonmagnetic or host an unusual, excitonic magnetism arising from a condensation of the excited J = 1 triplet states of t42g . We find that the interaction between J-excitons a...

Interface magnetic properties of epitaxial Fe-InAs heterostructures

The growth and interface magnetic properties of epitaxial Fe films grown on InAs (100)-4 2 have been studied using low-energy electron diffraction, in situ magneto-optical Kerr effect, and X-ray magnetic circular dichronism. The magnetic properties at room temperature were found to proceed via three phases with thickness; a nonmagnetic phase, a superparamagnetic phase, and a ferromagnetic phase...

The Anderson model of local-state conduction electron mixing is applied to the problem of interlayer magnetic coupling in metallic multilayered structures with palladium (Pd) spacer layers. An oscillation period of 5 spacer monolayers and the tendency towards ferromagnetic bias of the interlayer magnetic coupling that we obtain are consistent with the experimental data. The discovery of oscilla...
